Margaret Brooke is the namesake of the Royal Canadian Navy’s second Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) built at Halifax Shipyard. Lieutenant Commander Margaret Brooke MBE was a Royal Canadian Navy Nursing Sister decorated for gallantry during the Second World War. On October 14, 1942, a German submarine torpedoed the SS Caribou off the coast of Newfoundland, sinking the ferry within five minutes.
