OSI

OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by the UK Ministry of Defense for the replacement of legacy dual WECDIS systems in the Royal Navy (RN).

Under the agreement, OSI will be responsible for retrofitting and supporting all existing vessels operating with dual WECDIS. The contract represents a substantial expansion in the use of ECPINS-based systems across the RN, encompassing approximately 40 vessels, submarines, and shore integration facilities.

The upgrade represents a significant modernization of the navy’s WECDIS with enhanced capabilities and improved cybersecurity ahead of the roll-out of the IHO’s S-100 Electronic Charts.  Key upgrades include better access to critical hardware components, new screens optimized for available space, and compliance with military-grade shock and environmental standards.

The bespoke system was designed and developed by OSI’s systems, hardware, and software engineers alongside the company’s leading WECDIS subject matter experts and represents a savings in delivery time and installation costs — a testament to OSI’s expertise in retrofits and new builds and its commitment to customer satisfaction.

Fully NATO-compliant and future-proofed through to the late 2030s, ECPINS 6.4 will power the system, followed by an upgrade to ECPINS 7 later in the year.

As an existing ECPINS user, the RN benefits from the expanded use of ECPINS as the common fleetwide navigation system. This ensures immediate operator knowledge of the system without the need for additional training. Further, the reuse of existing consoles will streamline installation, minimize downtime, and maintain the current bridge design and equipment layout.
