Department of Defense Spokesman Lt. Col. Devin Robinson provided the following readout:

Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Sasha Baker hosted Canadian Deputy Minister of National Defense Bill Matthews for a bilateral meeting at the Pentagon, Sep. 25. The two leaders discussed NATO’s continued efforts to support Ukraine, modernization of the North America Aerospace Defense (NORAD) Command, defense investment, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. The leaders reaffirmed the deep and long-standing partnership between the United States and Canada, based on a shared commitment to a secure and prosperous North America.

The leaders also discussed potential areas for enhanced cooperation between the United States and Canada in order to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific, and agreed to continue close coordination on Indo-Pacific security and a range of other bilateral and global issues.

Additionally, the leaders agreed on the importance of continuing to work together through the U.S.-Canada Permanent Joint Board on Defense and the North American Defense Ministerial process.
