Exercise TRIDENT FURY 2023 (TF23) ended June 28th after nearly a month of multinational training activities that occurred off the coast of and across southern Vancouver Island. Over 1,000 military personnel took part, including six Royal Canadian Navy ships, numerous RCAF aircraft, Canadian Army personnel, and included the United States and Japan.
TF23 supported pre-deployment training for His Majesty’s Canadian Ships (HMCS) Ottawa and Vancouver in anticipation of their upcoming deployment to the Indo-Pacific. The training involved a full spectrum of air and sea tactical warfare training, including live-fire exercises, seamanship, maritime interdiction operations, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, air defense, mine counter-measures, and small boat defense.
Exercises like TRIDENT FURY are critical to maintaining the operational readiness of CAF assets, capabilities, and members by simulating challenging and demanding maritime conditions in a hostile environment shaped by escalating tensions. The successful completion of TF23 demonstrates Canada’s interoperability and commitment to working alongside allies and partners in pursuit of enhanced stability and security around the world.
