The Philippine Navy demonstrated enhanced maritime security and interoperability capabilities as they took part in a multilateral maritime exercise during Balikatan 41-2026 on April 28, 2026, off Bajo de Masinloc, alongside naval forces from the Philippines, United States, Japan, Australia, and Canada.

The activity involved naval vessels operating in a coordinated formation, synchronized maneuvering, communication protocols, and joint operational procedures designed to improve interoperability and ensure coordination during real-world maritime missions which was participated by vessels such as BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408), USS Ashland (LSD-48), USCGC Midgett (WMSL-757), JS Ikazuchi (DD-107), HMAS Toowoomba (FFH 156), HMCS Charlottetown (FFH 339), and HMCS Asterix, a Canadian combat support ship.

As part of the naval component of Balikatan 41-2026, the Philippine Navy’s BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG6) and BRP Antonio Luna (FFG15) joined the sea phase events. One of the highlights of these events was the replenishment-at-sea (RAS) conducted between Canada’s HMCS Asterix, serving as the replenishment ship transferring 30, 000 liters of ADO to BRP Antonio Luna (FFG15) as the receiving vessel while a similar operation was also carried out by BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG6).

The exercise highlights the Philippine Navy’s growing maritime security and interoperability capabilities while strengthening its ability to operate effectively with partner navies.
