Weir Canada Inc, a subsidiary of the Weir Group PLC, announced October 23 that it has retained the contract to manage Canada’s Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE).

NETE was founded in 1953 to test steam turbines, pumps and valves, supporting the introduction of the new St. Laurent class of ships and today is the Department of National Defence’s (DND’s) principal naval test and evaluation centre. Weir has been involved in the management and operation of NETE since its foundation.

This latest framework contract, awarded by Public Services and Procurement Canada on behalf of the DND, authorises a value of work of up to CAD$560m over a five-year period from April 2024, with options to extend for up to 20 years. This compares to revenues of around CAD$300m generated under the previous contract over the most recent five-year period.

Weir Canada General Manager Joel Parent said, “Our dedicated team in Canada is pleased to continue its longstanding relationship providing engineering testing, verification and evaluation services to the members of the Royal Canadian Navy.”
