Fleetway, a leading Canadian marine engineering and design company, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a significant contract to provide specialist support for the construction of the Royal Canadian Navy’s River Class Destroyers.
Awarded by shipbuilder Irving Shipbuilding Inc., this contract covers the first three ships in the program. Fleetway will deliver the comprehensive and consolidated class supportability solution, training solution, technical data products, and specialist engineering support to the shipbuilder.
This new construction program is a cornerstone of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and represents the largest, most complex shipbuilding initiative in Canadian history. The River Class Destroyer, derived from the advanced Type 26 Global Combat Ship currently under construction for the Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy, will serve as the formidable backbone of Canada’s future naval combat capabilities.
Fleetway’s extensive experience in supportability and engineering solutions is built on its longstanding role in the in-service support of the navy’s highly successful Halifax Class frigates, Iroquois Class destroyers, and Protecteur Class replenishment ships. The company has also provided integrated logistics support and training solutions for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship new build program, as well as engineering support to the Canadian Coast Guard.
John Newton, Managing Director of Fleetway Inc, commented: “On behalf of all Fleetway employees, we are honored and privileged to participate in building the next generation naval fleet for Canadians. We are inspired by the call to excellence that will underpin the defense and security of Canada, North America, and our allies.”
